A publication from Texas Comptroller Susan Combs’ office can help property owners understand the remedies available to them when they are not satisfied with the appraised values assigned to their property by the appraisal district. Property Taxpayer Remedies explains the remedies available to taxpayers and procedures to be followed in seeking remedial action.

The publication addresses property tax basics, how to protest property value, what can be protested, what is an Appraisal Review Board (ARB), when protests are filed, what steps to take to prepare for a protest hearing and what to do if you are dissatisfied with an ARB decision.

The publication gives key dates in the property calendar so property owners know what they must do and when they are required to act to exercise their right to protest.

Property Taxpayer Remedies is available from the Brazoria County Appraisal District at 500 North Chenango or by calling (979) 849-7792. The publication is also available from the Comptroller’s Property Tax Assistance Division at (800) 252-9121, ext. 2, or on the Comptroller’s website at www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/proptax/.
