INFORMATION ABOUT IKE DAMAGE AND YOUR PROPERTY TAX APPRAISAL
Texas law requires
that tax appraisals be determined as of January 1 of the year. The tax bill you
receive for this year (2008) will be based on that January 1 value, even if you
have sustained damage from Hurricane Ike. BCAD has no legal authority to change
values based on damage that occurs after January 1, or to conduct a
"disaster reappraisal" on its own initiative. The district plans to
re-inspect areas that have received the most damage prior to January 1, 2009.
If your property has not been repaired by January 1, 2009, your 2009
reappraisal will reflect the value of the property as of January 1, 2009. You
may file a Real Property Rendition stating the status of your property as it
stands on January 1. The time to file a rendition is between January 1 and April
15.
